A momentous day in the Herrick House!

That's right... breaking news... Miss Samantha is 2-wheel bike rider! Adios training wheels, hello freedom!

So it all started almost 2 years ago on her 4th birthday; thanks to my GREAT dad, Sam had her very first bike!

This year in trying to pry from her what she wanted Santa to bring her, she promptly announced she want a new bike. Well the Mr. and I stopped dead in our tracks. Wa-wa-wa-what???

Of course being very curious as to why she would want a new bike since she hardly rides her current bike, she so matter-of-factly replied (in a very even, calm tone) "I want a bike with 2 wheels." The biggest smiles came across our face, for we knew we just saved ourselves $$ and because this was it... the time to teach her that training wheels come off and VIOLA! new bike.

And so, with that the big guy took her outside and began the series of 2-wheel bike lessons; which were beyond hilarious. Mostly because Sam understood every concept and with every lesson you could see the wave of "well, duh" rush across her face; we knew that this was a girl that just got it. It was like she was teaching herself in her mind this whole time and just needed a bike with 2-wheels to put into practice what she knew already. She is unbelievable and simply GENIUS!

And of course what 2-wheel bike lesson isn't complete without a little asphalt, scraped hands? Minor meltdown ensued, but perfect teaching opportunity about getting right back on and keep trying...

Random photos...

Whenever I have a photo shoot planned at my house in my little “studio” I always beg and plead with the kiddos to sit for just a second so that I can get the lights and set up just right before the actual shoot. Well, in doing that, I always end up with the most random of photos... ENJOY! [taken December 2011]

Someone had a birthday...

Albeit almost 6 months ago, but better late than never. Samantha turned 9 years old in January and I cannot believe how big she is. Every once in a while I will catch a glimpse of her and just think to myself...WOW, you are all mine...I get to keep you forever!! I love that she is in our family and it would not be the same without her.

A fish called Sam!!

It's sort of a given when you live in this desert land that your kids have to go through this right of passage called city league swim team. And I gotta say... BRING IT ON! Growing up I always wanted to be on a swim team, nevermind that my strokes often look like someone is having a seizure in the water, but none the less I wished I had tried. Well, you better believe that this mama is living vicariously through her kids when it comes to swim. Sweating palms. Nervous stomach. Pacing back and forth... this is usually how you can find me and Scott on the sidelines. I LOVE IT!! She was pretty good last year for her first year, and this year she really did even BETTER...bringing home 3 first place ribbons. I actually only ended up bring my camera to one of her meets, shameful, I know. But in my quest to be ever more present in my kids' lives I didn't want to be all camera-crazed, jockeying for the BEST position with all the mom-tographers videoing their super-star athletes. R...
