... emphasis on the BUST part...
Well our once a year attempt at a family vacation was nothing short of a horrible disaster.
The number one problem... my kids are creatures of habit and so you throw them any curve balls or adjust their schedules even the slightest, and well I was just asking for trouble.
I thought I was completely organized with lots of snack and treat baggies labeled with each kids names, plenty of "new" books and activities, and soda galore for the old man and me. Well, 1-hour into the 5+ hour drive and Sam starts with the "are we there yet" and the latest question is "how many more seconds 'til we're there". Yep... it was a long drive - but little were we aware that the trip to San Diego would pale in comparison to the restless and anxious drive that was awaiting us when we would return home.
I won't bore you with the crazy details that surrounded this past weekend, I will however leave you with a few of the photo highlights... oh and the latest Herrick family saying courtesy of Sam... "I'm starving to death heaven"... kind of her version of "I'm starving to death" but somehow it's supposed to mean she is even more hungrier when she throws in the "death heaven" part... we got a kick out of this the whole weekend.
Apparently we drove almost 400 miles to the beach only to find out that the best toy were our 2 hotel room phones... the babes were so cute... they looked like a little call center or future CEO's wheelin' and dealin'
When we set out on this vacation the one "big event" we had planned was Seaworld... it's the only thing Sam could talk about for weeks. Well as you can see we never made it to Seaworld. Once we crunched the budget numbers it really came down to going to Seaworld or being able to drive home... kinda sad, I know. We talked Sam into a compromise and made it to the Zoo instead... cheaper yes, better I don't think so... I think Sam's body language says it all.
The first seashell find of the weekend... Sam was so proud. But then like the good mom I am I forgot that she had put me in charge of "watching" her seashell and like everything this weekend I failed miserably. Luckily the beach is not a place that lacks seashells and she was once again happy when her dad surfaced with an even bigger shell.
Not sure what Sam is doing or thinking here... this could possibly be her "I'm starving to death heaven" look, who knows...
The long road home...
Then as we were approaching the Phoenix valley we got the perfect view of the monsoon storm brewing...
