The ties that bind...

Today was a unique and special Sunday for the Herrick crew. The oldest nephew/cousin/grandson in the family is headed off on his 2-year church mission and this was his farewell today. It's so crazy to think this "kid" is going off into the world (actually Baton Rouge, Louisiana but it may as well be a whole other world from what I hear) with one goal in mind - to help and to teach people about our church. What an amazing experience this is going to be for him and all of us, his family, who get to live vicariously and follow along with him on his journey via letters, quick e-mails and an occasional phone call or two. Well, beside the final send off for Logan we were able to manage one final family picture of the entire bunch - orchestrated poorly by me (please don't ever make me take any family pictures at high noon, outside in 115 degrees) - but with a little (who's kidding, I mean a lot of) help from photoshop I was able to get something a bit nice out of one p

A little reprieve from the heat...

Well ok, a few days ago for about 17.6 seconds we got a little cloud cover that actually produced rain - not the measurable kind, just the stuff that makes it actually fun to go outside and "play" in. Just wanted to share this brief and fleeting moment with my non-AZ family and friends... see, it's not always 120 degrees out!! ;-)

Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere bubbles...

Around our house we are finding that we have to develop a secret language for certain things/activities or else the twiners go ga-ga at the very mention of these certain things.  For instance, the babies love the pool and I am terrified to take all 3 kids in the pool by myself - without proper adult supervision (aka Scott) - so if we mention the words SWIMMING or  POOL the babes get crazy excited thinking that it's wa-wa time. So the code word for the pool at the Herrick home is HOLLY... and yes Sam came up with the name all on her own... so if we ask you to come to the HOLLY with us we mean come over and swim between the hours of 1 and 3pm while the babes are in slumberland. So you're probably wondering what this little tid-bit has to do with bubbles. Well, just the word bubbles conjures up some magical twinkle in all 3 of the kids eyes. We haven't quite come up with a code for bubbles yet - mostly because it's just, too sweet to watch them get so excited for bubb

Our first camping trip... well, with the twins that is...

This past weekend we were fortunate enough to go on our very first camping trip as a family of 5 with some very dear, sweet friends of ours (also known as my YaYa's). That's right, twins and all... we packed up Scott's car - literally filled to the brim (I really wish I had a picture to show you) and headed up to a really great spot about 2.5 hours from our home. Everyone had such a great time and the twin's were great - I however became severely worn out just trying to keep up with the wiping of hands and faces every time they touched dirt. Needless to say that task was soon abandon about 15 minutes after our arrival. Here are some highlights of our adventure with the McKnights & the Belnaps... (sorry for number of pictures... I just couldn't narrow it down to just a few :-) Seriously... could this kid be any cuter (and dirtier)...  Little cookie happy as can be! And then there's the YaYa's... my very best friends... the reason why I'm so crazy and

A little summer fun...

The twins seem to have this "love/hate" relationship with water.  They don't mind splashing around in the pool, but when it comes to sprinklers they just can't get used to water falling and/or dripping on them; they're usually running and screaming in horror at the very sight of any sort of sprinkler.  So much to my delight I was able to capture these few rare and precious pictures of them actually enjoying themselves in this $1 store sprinkler find - granted the water is barely shooting out... but a sprinkler is a sprinkler. Now Samantha on the other hand I believe was actually some sort of water animal in another life.  This girl loves, I mean truly  L-O-V-E-S the water so thank goodness we have a pool or I'm sure we'd actually have to move in with family during the summer just to use their pool everyday.  Sam is now taking swim lessons from her aunt Marci - sorry City of Mesa, you just weren't cuttin' it - and already her aunt is super impresse

A wise man told me once...

...not to forget about or leave out the man of our house in these sometimes very in depth postings.  So, in light of the upcoming annual fatherly celebration I thought I would post an ode to a very special guy (mostly 'cause he never reads this stuff unless I show him, so I can conveniently forget to show him this posting :-)  I think everyone is caught up on our very lengthy ordeal with Scott's schooling so I don't think I need to bore anyone with any more of the gory details.  But what's really important to note here is that he is my hero... he really set his mind to this goal.  How many of us would have given up 3, 4, 5 years ago.  I know I would have (and sometimes did, but shhhhh, don't tell him).  This man had many, many obstacles to overcome to be able to forge ahead, but all along I know he saw the end result in his mind and that's what kept driving him, it's what kept him at the library sometimes 6 days a week (thank goodness government workers get

Can't forget about our little man...

So much blogging about the girls I don't want to forget about the coolest kid in this house... B-dawg, Bubba, Bro-wee (that's what Brooke calls him)... or as he is mostly referred to as... BRODY! This kid is my little man and is such a delight and really just the best kid ever.  Today we met with his eye specialist (as we have been doing every 3-5 months since he was born) to discuss what we are to do next about his nystagmus (I know, it sounds contagious, but it's not :-). And well the doc used the 'S' word repeatedly during our entire appointment... that word being SURGERY.  Yikes, I know... he's not even 2yrs yet and this will be his 2nd time going under general anesthesia.  But, his doc is great and we really trust and believe that he knows what he's doing and he really does care about Brody.  The surgery is outpatient and it's really not as invasive as I thought it would be.  So, August 19 you will find me pacing back and forth in the waiting room a

I never said this would be easy...

...Ok so I'm a bit slow to keep up on my blogging, but the good news is there's lots to say. We'll start with the GOOD ... So upon seeing my hair transformation Miss Samantha has been on a kick to get her hair cut, too. She's been saying that when her hair touches her neck it drives her crazy and she wanted it as short or shorter than my new hair cut. Well, knowing that swim class would be starting in 72 hours last Saturday I took the little misses to a salon (nothing fancy, well not if you consider Cost Cutters fancy) and the stylist proceeded to weed whack my sweet daughter's hair; almost to the point where I was about to punch her in the nose if she did not put down her scissors and just walk away. Now, you may be thinking how is this GOOD... well after we got home from the butcher, oh I mean Cost Cutters I spent a good 30mins playing with Sam's hair to see if it could be salvaged. And well, I think I'll live... she on the other hand is completely in
