The ties that bind...

Today was a unique and special Sunday for the Herrick crew. The oldest nephew/cousin/grandson in the family is headed off on his 2-year church mission and this was his farewell today. It's so crazy to think this "kid" is going off into the world (actually Baton Rouge, Louisiana but it may as well be a whole other world from what I hear) with one goal in mind - to help and to teach people about our church. What an amazing experience this is going to be for him and all of us, his family, who get to live vicariously and follow along with him on his journey via letters, quick e-mails and an occasional phone call or two.

Well, beside the final send off for Logan we were able to manage one final family picture of the entire bunch - orchestrated poorly by me (please don't ever make me take any family pictures at high noon, outside in 115 degrees) - but with a little (who's kidding, I mean a lot of) help from photoshop I was able to get something a bit nice out of one picture.

Whoa baby, it's been a lonnnng time!

OK, here we go... my attempt to play catch up... Scrolling down you see it was just a few posts ago that I was so proud of my new lil 2nd grader. Well as time so often does it just flew right by and we just wrapped up 2nd grade year... watch out 3rd grade. As tradition in our house here is Sam's mini shoot commemorating her 2nd grade year.

A fish called Sam!!

It's sort of a given when you live in this desert land that your kids have to go through this right of passage called city league swim team. And I gotta say... BRING IT ON! Growing up I always wanted to be on a swim team, nevermind that my strokes often look like someone is having a seizure in the water, but none the less I wished I had tried. Well, you better believe that this mama is living vicariously through her kids when it comes to swim. Sweating palms. Nervous stomach. Pacing back and forth... this is usually how you can find me and Scott on the sidelines. I LOVE IT!! She was pretty good last year for her first year, and this year she really did even BETTER...bringing home 3 first place ribbons. I actually only ended up bring my camera to one of her meets, shameful, I know. But in my quest to be ever more present in my kids' lives I didn't want to be all camera-crazed, jockeying for the BEST position with all the mom-tographers videoing their super-star athletes. R...

Someone had a birthday...

Albeit almost 6 months ago, but better late than never. Samantha turned 9 years old in January and I cannot believe how big she is. Every once in a while I will catch a glimpse of her and just think to myself...WOW, you are all mine...I get to keep you forever!! I love that she is in our family and it would not be the same without her.
