Just hangin' with the kids...

So even though Scott only works 3 days a week I often find myself hanging around the house with the kids for fear of getting too far from home with ALL 3 of them... I'm totally out numbered if they decide to revolt. But I'm finding that every day, week and month is some sort of growing milestone for all of them which causes me to get a sense of 'OK, I can do this' attitude and venture just a little farther from home for outings and to explore new and fun things to do. On this particular trip we grabbed our usual half price Sonic slushies and head off to Usery Pass for a little drive and desert exploring. Brody especially LOVED all the dips and hills in the road - it tickled his tummy he would say.

OK, so I've been slackin' a bit...

... but I promise I'll be making up for it over the next couple of days... so much to post!! Remember that holiday we celebrated a few weekends ago... yeah, well I almost forgot about it, too. In my attempt to be a photographer I often forget to capture my own families memories and Easter was no exception. I was able to get these few photos from a little party we had with some of the other cousins the day before, but unfortunately this is all we have to remember Easter of 2009 since not one picture was taken on the actual day. Yeah, I'm just that good of a mom ;-)

We're baaaack......

I'm warning you now this will be a long post... so much to share!! First off we had a total blast! We saw so much, we ate so much and we did so much.... WALKING!!! It was great; we walked almost everywhere which at the end of the trip probably equalled 20+ miles. What kind of vacation is this?? ;-) For me the absolute highlight was going to the taping of the Letterman show. Michael J. Fox was the guest with musical group The Fray (who are now my new favs). Letterman really is hilarious and his side-kick Paul Schafer really is a tiny little man - to me he looked a lot like the actor/comedian Martin Short. Here are some other highlights 1. Probably the worst picture ever taken of the Statue of Liberty, but it was one of the things that Scott really wanted to see on this trip. It was pretty anti-climatic,though as we thought it would be a lot grander than it was. If we had done the ferry tour and Ellis Island trip it probably would have been better. But now Scott can cross thi...

10 years = NYC

It was 10 years ago today that Mr. Scott and I were married and it was 10 years ago that we went on our "honeymoon" to Laughlin, NV. Any yes, I said "honeymoon" because, well it was Laughlin - not exactly ranking the top 1,000 in destination choices for young honeymooners!! We spent most the time watching biker brawls and hanging out at the early bird special buffet; I knew then and there that the Mr. was going to have to make it up to me big time when we had the chance. So, here we are, 10 years later and I am beyond excited that we are heading to NYC - yep, the Big Apple - next week to really celebrate this fantastic milestone for us. No kids, just us... 6 days/5 nights with no agenda but to soak in all the craziness that is NYC... oh, yeah and we're going to the Letterman show on Thursday so watch and see... But what's an anniversary post without a little photo walk down memory lane... I present to you the young Mr. & Mrs. Herrick

A spring break bust!!

First, my apologies go out to Samantha who spent her very first spring break hanging out with her mom and the babes for the entire week and we've got nothing to show for it... well, maybe not 'nothing'. The upside is that this was her very first spring break so I haven't set the bar too high as far as her expectations go - so I've got some time to make it up to her. The downside is that her only real memory of spring break will be our daily, and I do mean daily, trips to Sonic for half price drinks & slushies! This is exactly how I survived the week... knowing there was a large Coke for .75 just waiting for me at 2pm! And this is how the kids survived... Every time we pulled into the drive through Brody would say 'mama, I want my own'... I kinda sometimes have been known to make them all 3 share one... but never during 1/2 price drink happy hour! And what spring break would be complete without one - yes ONE - trip to the park that lasted 25 minutes! I k...

Another before and after... this one is not so dramatic...

Before: 4 bandanas (2 zebra print & 2 pink polka dot) After: 1 very ADORABLE bandana dress and 1 super STYLISH bandana shirt Now I know this is not a new concept here, but I am really quite proud of my little sewing creation. So proud that I'm sure the girls are going to be screaming and chanting 'put down the bandana and just walk away'. These were oh so (and sew) easy!!! I'm seeing one in every color and pattern for the girls... oh the possibilities!!

I'm so not a girly-girl mom...

... well, in most ways that's true. Take for instance hair bows... each of the girls have probably worn a bow in their hair maybe 2-3 times, TOTAL. I really do wish I was that mom that can do cute hair styles or always has cute bracelets or jewelry for the girls, but to be quite honest I can get so consumed and overwhelmed with just making sure they are dressed with clean underwear/diaper that I completely forget that they need to be GIRLS and have cute hair and stuff. This morning I decided I needed to have my girls at least resemble GIRLS... hot pink nail polish coming right up! It actually was the funniest thing to tell Brooke that I was going to paint her toenails. She ran to the office and pulled out Sam's paint set and said 'here mama, here your paint'. I laughed so hard... it really was quite cute. I took the girls to my bathroom and sat them on the counter and painted Sam's toes first so Brooke could see what it would look like. By the time it was Broo...
